Some Office 365 subscriptions are getting a new name in April 2020.
Microsoft is moving away from the ‘Office’ moniker and replacing it with ‘Microsoft’ – the argument being that the subscriptions include more than what were traditionally considered ‘MS Office’ applications.
The key new product names affect the business subscriptions that many SME will be using; Enterprise and Academic editions are not affected (yet).
Office 365 Business Essentials becomes Microsoft 365 Business Basic
Office 365 Business Premium becomes Microsoft 365 Business Standard
Microsoft 365 Business becomes Microsoft 365 Business Premium
Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlus both become Microsoft 365 Apps
There is a new Microsoft 365 website to explain the changes and the rationale behind them.
Perhaps the most important thing for business users – who would typically have opted for the Office 365 Business Premium subscription – is that they now have another option with the new Microsoft 365 Business Premium, which includes some additional security features.
The price point for the Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription will potentially mean some businesses will be looking at E3 subscriptions as an alternative, or even E5 if you are planning on using Microsoft’s virtual PBX phone system – increasingly popular in the current work from home environment.
While you can upgrade subscriptions and add some individual features, it is worth spending some time evaluating which subscription offers the best value for your particular circumstances.
If you need help working out what features you really need and how to get the best value for your budget, email help@tradeit.uk.com and a Microsoft 365 specialist will get back to you. We can also organise trial subscriptions so you can try before you buy.
